Coventry, RI: May 1st, 2006—The organizers of the 5th Annual RI Sustainable Living Festival & Clean Energy Expo are a little more seasoned, a little more savvy and—given skyrocketing energy prices and public confidence in the existence of global warming—a little more confident of the resonance of their cause. This year’s musical line up is sure to get your feet tapping, featuring avant rock trio The Slip, the elegant and electric Erin McKeown, the eclectic Alec K. Redfearn & the Eyesores, folk giant Tracy Grammer and a group of Ponagansett High School musicians known as Protium who will be playing fuel cell powered (and exhilaratingly good) rock and roll.

But wait, there’s more! A second stage, new this year, will feature Becky Chace, voted best female vocalist 5 times by the Providence Phoenix, avant soul diva Kristi Martel, and other rising stars in the RI Songwriters Association (RISA) community. A full musical line-up for both stages is available at www.livingfest.org.

As a band that developed their sound in part through “an extremely supportive local scene,” which included collaboration with the Apeiron Institute since the late 1990s, The Slip is particularly thrilled to be back again for 2006. According to Brad Barr, Slip guitarist and lead vocalist, “As an ideal, sustainable living is an amazing concept, which can transform vicious social and environmental problems while bringing us closer together. We are all for that.” John Fuzek, manager of the Festival’s second stage and Co-Chairperson of the RI Songwriters Association adds that, “The Apeiron Sustainable Living Festival is a great fit for RISA with homegrown music, great people and a down-to-earth, friendly atmosphere. This is the 4th year that RISA has been involved and we are proud to work with an organization that supports local music and tries to make a difference. The Sustainable Living Festival is a cause and event well worth everyone's support.”

With a roster of 40 workshops from regional experts and leaders, a musical line-up of consummate performers, an action packed children’s program, more than 80 vendors, exhibitors, artists, storytellers, puppetry and even a few surprises, the Sustainable Living Festival makes this “cause worth fighting for” much less of a fight. “We feel life improves when you move towards solutions like harnessing sun and wind energy and eating food that is locally and organically grown,” explains Bradley Grove Hyson, Apeiron’s Executive Director and the visionary force behind the Festival. “You begin to have hope again that we can restore health and social connection within our communities and the systems that sustain us. On June 3rd, the music is the message.”

Join the hip and homegrown talents that are scheduled to perform and thousands of other supporters at the Sustainable Living Festival on Saturday, June 3rd, from 11 to 8, rain or shine. Tickets can be purchased at www.livingfest.org, at the Garden Grille on East Avenue at the Providence/Pawtucket line, or call 401-397-3430 fore more information. Here’s to a more enLIGHTened future!

Coventry, RI: May 2, 2006—As concerns over the path of petrodollars increase each day, and a growing number of thinkers, business innovators, politicians and citizens throughout the world are saying good riddance to the polluting energy policies of the past, organizers of the 5th Annual RI Sustainable Living Festival & Clean Energy Expo are pleased to present solutions for our future. On June 3rd, 2006 from 11 to 8 at the Apeiron Institute in Coventry, thousands will gather to educate about and exhibit the latest systems, products and practices, and to celebrate with music and festivities the many things we can do right now to reduce our costs and impact on the environment.

With demos, exhibitions and workshops on everything from biodiesel production to straw bale building, from caring for your compost to retrofitting your home with solar, 80 vendors, scores of expert presenters, and sponsors like the Rhode Island State Energy Office, Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp., The Hudson Companies, SolarWrights and RISE Engineering the festival provides the unique tools and skills to answer the call to action. And, while the workshops stimulate the minds and hearts of information seekers, the music and festival activities are more than an added bonus.

A musical line up on two stages features avant rock trio The Slip, Erin Mckeown, Alec K. Redfearn & the Eyesores, folk giant Tracy Grammer and local divas Becky Chace and Kristi Martel. An action packed children’s program, storytelling, Big Nazo puppets, artisans—not to mention more than a few surprises—will all offer unique local flair in support of a healthy and united future. Also not to miss are the RI Junior Solar Sprint model car competition for middle school students in the morning, a fleet of alternative energy vehicles, nature hikes and wilderness experiences, tours of Apeiron’s state of the art environmental building and fabulous local, organic food!

“We feel that fun is part of the process,” explains Bradley Grove Hyson, Apeiron’s Executive Director and the visionary force behind the Festival. “Finding clean energy solutions is a challenge that affords us all the opportunity to reassess our practices and values. There is more to life than acquiring stuff we really don’t need to be happy. When we gather together we create new opportunities, and we nurture the solutions for our selves, families and neighbors. This Festival is about shifting our focus and celebrating a healthy sustainable world.” Hyson adds, “Besides, with all of this happening in the beauty and bounty of nature, it’s a life altering day!”

To join in the fun at the RI Sustainable Living Festival & Clean Energy Expo on Saturday, June 3rd, from 11 to 8 rain or shine at The Apeiron Institute for Environmental Living’s environmental education center in Coventry, purchase tickets on line at www.livingfest.org, at the Garden Grille on East Avenue at the Providence/Pawtucket line, or call 401-397-3430. Here’s to a more enlightened future!
