Everybody Wins at The Junior Solar Sprint as students learn about renewable energy!

The Junior Solar Sprint model solar powered car competition is a national science and technology program enabling 5th through 8th graders to deepen their understanding of renewable energy, math, physical science and craftsmanship through hands-on discovery that is extraordinarily fun. Students design and construct mini solar cars using a combination of household and recovered materials, guidance from teachers, parents or group leaders, and information from the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association. The competition is held as part of the RI Sustainable Living Festival & Clean Energy Expo each June, and is conveniently located at the Western Coventry Elementary School near to Festival Parking. Junior Solar Sprint Team Members and Teachers get into the Festival for free, and family members pay only $10 in advance and $15 on the day of. Winners are announced and receive prizes from the festival main stage. Winners are also eligible to compete in the Northeast Championship at the Springfield Science Museum Quadrangle later in June.
