DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABLE RI POSITION
Introduction:
This position is responsible for working closely with the Executive Director, Director of Sustainable Business Development, and Director of Education to develop, manage and implement the Sustainable RI (SRI) initiative; a multi-faceted campaign to transform RI into the nation’s first sustainable state.
Duties & Responsibilities
MEMBERSHIP
- Develop, implement, manage and grow SRI membership programs for individuals and households
- Coordinate and align household membership campaign with membership campaigns for businesses and educational. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Developing & producing targeted membership and fundraising campaigns to grow SRI membership
- Maintaining regular membership communications via mailing, e-mailing and social networking
- Coordinating special events
- Tabling at specific events
- Phone calling and management of phone banks
- Canvassing
- Managing member renewals and other membership activities
- Work with staff to maintain proper member database
PROGRAMS & EVENTS
- Manage, coordinate and enhance existing SRI programs
- Work with the Executive Director and staff to assess and create new SRI initiatives/ programs
- Produce workshops, trainings, networking events, programs and events for members
- Assist with marketing publicity and promotion of SRI events utilizing different formats including: brochures, flyers, e-mail and social web communications
- Participate with staff to plan and produce the RI Sustainable Living Festival. Specific responsibility includes incorporating SRI into the festival’s program
- Oversee management of SRI Directory w/ additional staff
LEADERSHIP NETWORKS
- Maintain & update Apeiron’s “Strategic Vision Document”, an on-line wiki-based vision document articulating goals, strategies, policies and measures in key target areas toward making Rhode Island a Sustainable State
- Work with the Executive Director and other staff to identify, participate in and monitor key leadership networks & agencies to bring “sustainable” thinking to other working groups, coalitions, and stakeholder groups in state. This includes representing Apeiron at relevant networking meetings, assisting in the development of policy recommendation, and otherwise being responsive to the needs of our communities
MANAGEMENT & OTHER
- Develop and manage strategic workplans for the above
- Participate with Executive Director and other staff to support fundraising efforts including, but not limited to grants, personal & business donations, major gifts, special events, and other fundraising activities
- Stay abreast of environmental and sustainability issues and relevant trends
- Maintain accurate records and preparation of reports to board, grantors, and partners
- Assist the Executive Director, other staff and Board of Directors in any way deemed necessary for the proper growth and management of the organization
- This position may provide supervision of additional staff and/or interns
All duties and actions taken by the incumbent of this position while on official duty will be performed in a safe and healthful manner and will be of a nature to reflect favorably on the Apeiron Institute for Sustainable Living.
Supervision:
This position is supervised directly by the Executive Director
Performance Review:
The performance of each duty will be evaluated against the above requirements. The Executive Director, under consultation from the board will complete a formal review on a yearly basis. The performance rating is an overall evaluation of performance in the judgment of the supervisor and performance based merit increases are approved by the Apeiron Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
While all qualifications below are not necessarily required for the candidate, they are strongly recommended
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Experience in Sustainability Issues such as: sustainable design, environmental building, sustainable communities, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, holistic & prevention oriented healthcare, sustainable agriculture, transit alternatives, low impact living, etc., preferably of RI and Southeastern New England
- Environmental education, policy and advocacy background a plus
- Work experience with fundraising and/or membership development
- Strategic Planning Skills & Business Case development experience
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word & Excel, knowledge of E-mail
- Basic Adobe Illustrator, In-Design, and Dreamweaver design skills a plus
- Excellent People Skills
- Person must be professional, dependable, detail oriented, and work well independently
- Strong Marketing Communications skills/experience
- Highly motivated, positive attitude, works well with others, professional, able to meet deadlines
- Kind and a good sense of humor
Hours:
This is a full time position (40 hours per week), Monday – Friday, with frequent need to be able to work occasional evenings and weekends
Compensation:
$45,000 annual salary plus health insurance (50% employer contribution), vacation, sick, and personal time
