ONE-DAY PROJECTS: QUICK WAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Center for Sustainable Living Work Day
Come spend a day out at Apeiron’s award winning Ecological Housing Model in Coventry, Rhode Island.  Activities range from site work - gardening, landscaping and trail management to work on the building - carpentry, painting, cleaning or maintenance. Workdays typically run 9:30 am – 4:30 pm on Saturdays.  No experience necessary.  Lunch is on us.  Ideal for groups & classes.  The next scheduled workday is Thursday, October 16th from 3-7pm.

Public Outreach
We are looking for volunteers to staff our information booths at fairs, festivals, conventions and other special events, answering questions, distributing literature, and introducing our organization to a broader community. It offers an excellent opportunity to connect with the greater network of Rhode Island environmentalists!

Sustainable RI Directory Web Assistant
No previous web experience necessary.  This web site serves as a clearinghouse for sustainability products and practitioners throughout the state. With a point and a click, the site connects individuals with like-minded neighbors, organizations and companies bringing the sustainability movement to RI.  The site proves a broad range of resources from organic farms, to solar panel installers, green builders & architects, fuel-efficient vehicles, and more. Help inventory the Sustainability movement in RI and keep this living site current. 

RI Sustainable Living Festival & Clean Energy Expo
Help produce the 8th Annual RI Sustainable Living Festival and Clean Energy Expo in June 2009.   The festival features music, workshops, vendors, exhibitors, food, music, children’s activities, nature walks, tours of the Apeiron Center for Sustainable Living, and much more. Over 200 volunteers are needed over the course of three days to help with set-up, production, clean-up, and everything in between. Four hours of service earns you free admission to the festival for the day! (Also see the Planning Committee below)

Database Assistant
Our database is the backbone of all of the outreach and communications work we do. Help us improve how we reach out to our contacts and members by cleaning & transferring data from our old system to our new one.  This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside our staff at our Providence office in Rhode Island’s first “green” office building!  Also works as a long-term volunteer opportunity or internship.

Media Book Creator
Have a knack for scrapbooks? This fun job involves gathering and organizing all of our publicity materials and published articles that we’ve saved over the years to create a scrap book to showcase how the rest of the world sees what Apeiron has been up to.

Mailing Mate
This very social volunteer opportunity presents itself several times each year when we put together a newsletter and appeal mailing to our members. Help us stuff and seal envelopes over coffee, tea, and great conversation! Next dates of need will be announced in November.

Phone Bank
Assist Apeiron in reaching out to our community to increase involvement and membership among the organizations and individuals that we have gotten to know over the past fourteen years. This is a date-specific opportunity; the next dates are October 14th-16th.
