Your young engineers will deepen their understanding about solar energy, math, physical science, and craftsmanship. This project is appropriate for students in grades 5-8 and is a great opportunity for a class, after school, home school, or youth group. Teams can enter their cars in local design and race competitions with top winners invited to an annual Northeast championship. You might win a solar panel for a door prize for attending the workshop! A letter of attendance for your professional development is also provided. To register fill out the form below, or EMAIL: elisabeth@apeiron.org. About the Junior Solar Sprint: Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) is open to young people between the ages of 10 and 14, who design and race their own MODEL SOLAR ELECTRIC CARS with the guidance of teachers, troupe leaders, parents or other helpful grown ups. Young people develop hands on skills as engineers, craftspersons, scientists and solar power whizzes through this highly motivated learning experience. JSS teams use a standard photovoltaic solar panel, motor, rules and appropriate instruction, and they create the fastest, coolest car they can.
Junior Solar Sprint offers educators a stimulating, experiential method of teaching subjects as diverse as physics, math and environmental science. Interested teachers, troop leaders, parents and homeschoolers have many resources at their fingertips. Attending an introductory workshop or technical assistance session is a great way to learn how to get started with your own group of kids.
