Providence, RI: May 15, 2007— Looking for ideas big and small to be a part
of the solutions to global warming? Looking to add
some organic, locally grown spice to RI life? Looking
to join with others and take charge of future development
in our state? Come on down to the 2007 RI Sustainable
Living Festival & Clean Energy Expo on Saturday June 9th from 9 am to 9 pm at the Apeiron Institute
for Environmental Living in Coventry and find answers
to questions you didn’t even think to ask.
Entertainment and education are allied agents of change on June 9th—two stages
combine with 40 workshops and happenings like the morning
Climate Action Conference, the eco friendly vending
mall, live action energy installations, and a fleet
of alternative energy vehicles—including the world’s
only vegetable oil powered motor home and fuel cell
powered Model T! A full musical line-up for both stages,
workshop listings, $10 advance price tickets and transportation
info are available at www.livingfest.org.
“The Festival is just
mushrooming as the hub of a new positive conjoining
of efforts that is allowing our state to shift resources
and development to cleaner and more economically sound
choices and lifestyles,” explains Festival organizer
and Apeiron Institute for Environmental Living Director
Brad Hyson. “That’s why we toss everyone together—educators
and the general public, the specialized eco friendly
product vendors and the politicians, the artists and
environmentalists—because you can’t get new outcomes
without new interactions!”
In that vein, BRU Rock
Hunt finalist Fungus Amungus headlining on the main
stage, will lead an open drum jam at the end of the
show; and the What Cheer? Brigade (an 18-piece roving
brass band that has played in trees, ferris wheels,
zoos, grocery stores, bus stops, parties, farms, bars,
libraries, soccer fields, cemeteries, and school playgrounds)
will head a parade of giant “climate creatures” made
on site by festival goers and Big Nazo artisans that
day. Add Superchief Trio’s tasty tunes with red-hot
trombone and two-fisted piano, Girlyman’s toothsome
vocals, and the tantalizing call to Ireland from Pendragon
and find hearty fare for any ear.
“We’re seeding a new way
of thinking,” rejoins Hyson, “a systemic approach to
problem-solving beyond the stale and splintered politics
of identity and dollars—sustainable living on and from
the ground up!” What will grow, we don’t know, but
RI is hungry for change and with the Johnson & Wales Green Chefs cooking festival food, we know it will taste good! See and
smell you there.
